Hi! My name is Merel, which also is the Dutch word for black bird (hence the feather in my logo), and I am (as you could have guessed from the small remark on my name) from The Netherlands. I am a twenty-four year old perfectionist, trying to juggle between school, work, and blogging (which never works out the way I want it to). Besides, my amazing other half Luuk and our cat Blow (also called the Banjo), deserve all attention in the world. We’ve been one big happy family for almost five years now and we’re planning on living happily ever after as well (obviously).
LIFE AS MEREL
Since I’m completely into reading and writing and being my own nerdy self, I decided (after finishing an Art History bachelor program in July 2014) to attend a two-year research masters program called Ancient Studies (about Greek and Roman history). It is very demanding (as in: very), but completely satisfactory at the same time, so I guess you could call me happy even though I sleep for only four hours a night (just kidding). To pay all the bills, I work in a quality shoe store, where (I guess) my love for fashion originates. So besides studying and working, I thought it would be a good idea to ruin the rest of my free time by starting a blog. Let’s say it just fits my ambitious-eager-to-learn-and-be-creative characteristics.
I started this blog (on September the 17th, 2013) as a kind of creative outlet, as a counterpart to my sometimes waaay-too-serious and busy life. After almost two years, I can comfortably say that it works for me. Originally, I blogged about basically all you can think of, but now I focus on the things I love most: fashion, lifestyle, travel, history, photography and health. What’s most important to me, is to create some kind of online inspirational journal, in which photos are more important than text. It’s about inspiring people (and myself) by means of visual material. Because there are a lot of similar blogs out there, I focus on personal stuff too. I think that’s what makes every blog unique: it’s about a particular person and is representative of his/her view of the world.
At the moment, I couldn’t be happier with this blog and I hope it will grow to something even better! You can find Merely Merel on Bloglovin’, Instagram, Facebook, Lookbook, Twitter and Pinterest, so if you appreciate my blog efforts, please let it show by following me there! I consider your presence here as a huge compliment =D.
