Let’s talk glasses today guys! I know some of you have been thinking about getting new (or maybe even a first) pair of prescription glasses, and since I’ve experienced the whole thing lately both offline and online, I figured it might be helpful to share my story. Last July, I bought myself my first pair of prescription glasses at Eyes and More (read all about that here and check out proper photos of me wearing them here). Right now, I can compare them with a brand new second pair that I ordered online at Polette. Curious about my online experience? Read on.

First of all let me just say Polette has a genius concept: they sell really pretty, cool, trendy and unique frames that you won’t find at a regular optician. Because they sell them straight of the manufacturer, they are verrrry cheap as well, which (I think) also enables Polette to sell more trendy frames (because who is gonna pay €600 for glasses if you’re not sure you’ll like them as much next year?). Anyhow, the concept is simple: pick your favorite frame, choose whatever lenses you need (I only need single-vision ones), and wait for about one-and-a-half week for your glasses to arrive. Depending on the frame and glasses, prices range from €10,- to €50,- for frames and €10,- to €80,- for lenses.

After comparing about seven different frames, I finally decided to go for Gracie Mile Bi, a black and transparant frame with a little hint of gold. Since my other pair is brown, this seemed to be a convenient choice. Not to mention my love for black, gold, and everything transparant. When they arrived, they were exactly what I had imagined. The quality is just as good as my first pair of glasses and as far as the lenses go, I didn’t need to adjust to them or anything, which is a good sign I think. However, they don’t look as “natural” on me as my brown ones, because they partly cover my eyebrows. Still, I’ve worn them a lot already and received many compliments (even from complete strangers haha)!

Would I recommend ordering at Polette? Yes and no. No, If this is going to be your first pair of glasses. As you could’ve read in my post about Eyes and More, trying glasses on in real life really made me get used to the sight of it. When I tried on my first pair (the pair I actually took home with me in the end), I really thought it looked horrible. It was only after trying out many more frames that I found out that I just needed to get used to wearing glasses in general, before I could judge the particular frame I was wearing. In the end, I tried on my first pick and was really happy with how good it looked haha! Also, the saleswomen from the Eyes and More store made me try frames I wouldn’t have picked for myself in a million years and I was surprised by how nice some of them actually looked. So yeah, let a professional help you first, so you really know what you’re looking for and what suits you. PS. Don’t think you know what looks good on you based on your sunnies. Sunglasses can be way bigger and more extravagant and still look good. This won’t always work for “normal” glasses.

Yes, if you’re completely confident you know what you want and need (including the eye test results) and, preferably, if you have your favorite pair of glasses in front of you to compare the online ones with. Polette has really detailed measurements included to all of their glasses’ descriptions, so you can literally compare your own pair of glasses with the measurements of the ones you consider to order (and I’d recommend you to do that). And don’t forget to pick a nice case and a wipe afterwards! It depends on the type of lenses you need, but my glasses were €30,-, which is extremely cheap. Even compared to Eyes and More, and other non-designer-frame-concept-opticians. So… hope this little guide helped you out, please leave any questions you might have below, and happy shopping!

Oh, and yes, this my new (red!) Moleskine agenda for 2016. I’m just as much in love as I am EACH YEAR when I buy a new Moleskine (and I figured it was about time for something other than black). Three favorite items in one photo <3.

Ja jij hebt nachtlezen he?

Dankje!
