THE PRETTY DUTCH CITY OF HAARLEM

Haarlem

It was the usual grey weather (which evolved into really stormy and rainy weather on our last evening), but me and my two besties had an amazing time last weekend during our yearly girls-only-getaway. We either go to the Dutch mini-island called Terschelling in Summer, or (if we can’t make that work) do something fun around Christmas. This year, we opted for Haarlem, a city that is actually really close by for all of us, but that doesn’t matter, because it’s more about spending quality-time together than it is about sightseeing. We did a lot of shopping, strolling around (there was even a Christmas market), wine drinking, eating, dancing, and having a good time together. My new (fashion) buys will be featured here and on my IG soon enough, but for now, let’s just enjoy the beauty of Haarlem (even with grey weather).

Pandora love! Didn’t buy any new charms though.

I was quite content with myself after taking this picture haha!

Happy shopping dance.

I’m typing this after returning from a theater show called Caligula (about the Roman emperor), which was really good and absurd at the same time. Gotta go to bed now though, it’s laaaate already!

Merel, I noticed from your posts that every Dutch city is beautiful and charming in its own way:) It always amazes me to see the combination of modern boutiques and medieval buildings, or just streets. We don’t get to see this much in North America:)
I love the idea of a girls-only-getaway! I’ve never done it, but it sounds like so much fun:) Have a nice Monday and Happy Holidays:)

That’s true, most of the cities in Holland look somewhat like this. We’ve got quite strict rules concerning the preservation of historic monuments, so many of the “old” facades need to be preserved and restored, even though nowadays they house shops and restaurants. In many occasions, the building itself is completely renewed, but the facade is still there, because these rules mostly deal only with the general view or skyline of the city haha!

Every Dutch is like this, so I’m kinda used to the prettiness of it. But taking pictures reminds me to look around and enjoy the view more. Thanks for your comment Vivienne!
